Lex is a community and clinical herbalist holding a certificate and diploma in Herbal Studies from Minneapolis College. They have been an organizer, advocate, and activist in the Minneapolis community for over 20 years. Their practice is heavily influenced by their Mexican (Jalisco, Zacatecas) and Celtic (Scotland, Ireland) lineage, as well as the medicine of the first peoples of the land they live on (Dakota, Anishinaabe).
Lex grew up in outstate Minnesota and Indiana, spending their summers climbing trees, swimming in the Mississinewa and Root Rivers, harvesting blackberries, fishing, canoeing, and more. Lex was raised with a philosophy of compassion for others and a familiarity with different systems of medicine. As a teenager Lex continued to learn the healing properties of jewelweed, mullein, and more from their dear friend Mama Sue. They continued studying well into adulthood, pouring over books and purchasing herbs and tinctures from their local apothecary stores and using them to care for their self, family, and friends. In 2020 Lex was working in Disease Intervention for the Public Health Department when the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and the uprising began after the murder of George Floyd. With clinics being shut down, and the emergent need in their community, Lex began to use their knowledge of plants to help their community. Later that year they opened a small online shop offering salves, oils, and herbal preparations to help subsidize their community work. In late 2021 Lex felt the online shop was beginning to demand too much of a retail role and less of a holistic connection role and decided to redirect their efforts towards community education and individual consultation. Lex now offers small group classes, plant walks, one on one education, herbal formulations, and individual clinical consultation.
